Hemp leaf

~ Morisa Collection Review No. 7 ~

Like the Seigaiha pattern we looked at last time, the hemp leaf pattern is an auspicious motif that can be seen in many places, including textile products and architectural designs.

Although it is a pattern that we see often, do you know the meaning behind the hemp leaf pattern?

<About Asanoha>
It was named after its resemblance to the large hemp leaf.

Hemp has the characteristics of being insect-free and growing straight and strong.
- Does not attract insects → The hemp leaf pattern has the power to ward off evil spirits = a talisman - Grows straight and strong → It is often used on newborn clothes and children's kimonos, with the hope that the baby will grow up healthy and strong.

If you are giving a gift as a prayer for a safe delivery or as a baby shower gift, it may be a good idea to choose one with a hemp leaf pattern.

*By the way, although cannabis is now treated as a narcotic drug, the stems have long been used for fiber and the seeds for medicine.
This plant is the origin of why the sacred talismans of Ise Shrine are called cannabis, and it seems to have a deep historical connection with Shintoism.

<About color>
There are 5 colors of lace and 4 colors of paper.
The most popular colors are light green (lace) and grass green (composite), which resemble leaves.

Finally, we would like to introduce some of the ready-made hemp leaf products that Morisa carries!
Small roll/Asanoha composite ...Very convenient as you can cut it to any size you like!
Hemp leaf pink drawstring pouch ...A cute pink drawstring pouch that is not standard. You can use just one of these to wrap gifts. ・Cut paper/Japanese pattern square 18 ...18cm cut paper. It has a slightly different texture than lace or papermaking, but it is durable and can be used as a lining paper or to wrap small items.

There are other hemp leaf pattern products available, so if you're interested, head over to LadyRisa Tosa Washi now!
